They are magnetic sensors designed to detect magnetic fields generated by a permanent magnet or even by an electromagnet.

In the front of the sensor there is an electronic component sensitive to the magnetic field, which if excited by a magnet, it alters its characteristic generating a signal for the sensor output stage.
